8 Types of Journals You Need To Try
Journaling has TONS of benefits. The problem is, most people don't have time to keep a diary on their entire life. There's simply too much to cover. Focused journals help you hone in on the powers of journaling and reap the benefits in a specific area of your life. Here are 8 types of focused journals you need to try...
Dream Journal
No not an “I want to live in the hills of Tuscany” dream journal, a literal “zzz” dream journal! Every morning, right when you shoot (or drag yourself) out of bed, write down as much as you can remember your dreams. You can use this for inspiration if you write stories, take it to someone who interprets dreams, or as a catalog of how messed up, your subconscious is...
Travel Journal
Honeymoon, Spring Break, “I need a break”... take it whenever you travel away from home. Let the ideas flow, document cool things that happened, or what you learned while you were there. This can be more effective than taking pictures because you can write down more details that you might not remember by looking at a photo. This is also a great way to keep a record of where you went and their names in case you want to go back or need to make recommendations for someone!
Memory Journal
As you work on your startup you’ll want to remember that time you met the founder of your favorite company. Or the first time someone came to you because they thought you were an expert in the field your startup lays. And of course, you don’t want to forget all the competitions you competed in (or even won!) You can make it as simple as jotting down a list, or get creative and include printed pictures or articles.
Group or Family Journal
A great way to get everyone involved! You can go Sisterhood Of the Traveling Pants-style where everyone documents their experiences to share. Or make it like a physical forum where you determine a topic and let everyone write their thoughts as you pass it around.Perhaps y’all get some heated debates and make enemies! But you probably won’t haha. It’s a great way to get to know people and also if you have to pass it around, it’s an excuse to SEE someone for a bit!
Planning Journal
Some of us are super forgetful! And as your business grows and you have more responsibilities or more people to interact with, writing down tasks can be a great way to stay on track and stay productive. Never think you are too good for this, because this is the only way the successful have become successful. When you plan, write them in an order that makes sense and also make sure you are prioritizing correctly.
Reading journal
If you’re a read-a-holic, this one's for you! Write down your favorite books, favorite quotes, characters and more! Also great for when you need to recommend a book to someone. You can also take time to analyze part of the book that you find interesting or personally struck you.
Creativity Journal
A creative journal could just be a collection of ideas, observation, sketches, magazine clippings that could be used to inspire creative work in your startup or in art.
Personal development
Journaling your growth can be a very positive and reassuring process. Holding yourself accountable can motivate you actually try. Sometimes it doesn’t work out that way but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care about personal development. Use this journal to identify your strengths and weakness and where something is able to improve or just a part of who you are. There is no need to beat yourself up for not knowing the biological makeup of a turtle if you majored in Accounting. Ya feel?
A journal helps you work this out and keeps track of the goals you should make for yourself to improve healthily. It’s interesting to do this as you go through your startup journey so you can see how the experience had molded you, good or bad.
